 To plan and manage all preventative maintenance work, new projects, extensions, and renovations.
 To comply with all statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety licensing and provide all necessary safety equipment required for work to be carried out efficiently and safely.

 To continually monitor the responsible use of energy in the hotel, and implement measures resulting in energy cost savings.
 To manage the department, in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
 Ensure that all maintenance requests are prioritised and are dealt with in an efficient manner, by technically proficient and guest-friendly technicians
 He/she ideally should be certified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
 Must be familiar with the operations and priorities of all other hotel operating departments.
 Advise other colleagues on Health & Safety rules and processes.
